Entrepreneur, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has announced he is leaving his position as special government employee in the administration of US President Donald Trump.
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk wrote on X Wednesday night. “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”
Musk can serve as special government employee for no more than 130 days per year, which expires Friday.
Musk headed the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which was created to reduce US government spending. Musk was able to reduce spending from $2 trillion to $1.15 trillion, reports AP.
