The South Korean military is discussing with the US the possibility of American military assistance in conducting air patrols after the crash of a South Korean patrol plane, Yonhap reports.

Negotiations are underway with the US military to receive assistance from patrol planes of the US Indo-Pacific Command, the South Korean military said.

Due to safety concerns, flights of a dozen P-3-model patrol planes have been canceled after the crash of an aircraft of this model in South Korea. The latter's military is increasing surveillance with alternative means, such as naval ships and helicopters.

A South Korean Navy P-3 patrol plane crashed on May 29 near Pohang city. The plane crashed into a mountain during a training flight. All four people on board died.
