Geert Wilders, leader of the far-right Party for Freedom (PVV)  in the Netherlands, has announced on X that his party was leaving the country’s ruling coalition.

He stressed that none of the other parties in the coalition have supported his plan to tighten the Netherlands’ migration policy, or make any changes to the agreement.

Wilders added that the lack of such support leaves no other option.

The PVV won the most seats in parliament in the latest elections in the Netherlands, and its exit from the coalition government could lead to its collapse and new elections in the country.

Wilders is in favor of limiting the residence permit of refugees in the Netherlands to three years. Also, he believes that the Dutch government should make it more difficult for refugees to reunite with their families in the Netherlands. Furthermore, Wilders proposes refusing to grant asylum to refugees from safe areas in Syria, as, according to the Netherlands, they do not need protection.
