Democratic Party member governors of 22 US states have condemned President Donald Trump's decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles to suppress the protests there.

"President Trump's move to deploy California's National Guard is an alarming abuse of power. Governors are the Commanders in Chief of their National Guard and the federal government activating them in their own borders without consulting or working with a state's governor is ineffective and dangerous," the aforesaid governors said in a joint statement.

In their opinion, Trump is showing a lack of confidence in local law enforcement agencies by threats to send the Marines to combat unrest.

“We stand with [California] Governor Newsom who has made it clear that violence is unacceptable and that local authorities should be able to do their jobs without the chaos of this federal interference and intimidation,” the statement concluded.

Protests against mass arrests of illegal immigrants have been ongoing in Los Angeles for the third day. Trump, bypassing the California governor, ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard members to combat the unrest. They began arriving in Los Angeles on Sunday morning. According to American media, there are currently about National Guards there.
