Hraparak daily of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: [Prime Minister Nikol] Pashinyan was very dissatisfied with the consequences of Narek Karapetyan’s interview given to [American commentator and host] Tucker Carlson.
Yesterday we were informed that [Donald] Trump Jr. canceled his visit to Armenia on November 12, and it is not ruled out that the [aforesaid] interview played a role, as the information about the [Armenian Apostolic]Church persecutions may have discouraged him from the idea of visiting Armenia.
Pashinyan believes that after that interview, a negative impression of him was created in the US. So, he instructed [his press secretary] Nazeli Baghdasaryan and [FM] Ararat Mirzoyan to organize a revenge interview with the well-known Time magazine journalist Simon Shuster. He wants to convince the international community that his fight against the [Armenian] opposition is legitimate and has decided to present facts on the American platform about how the opposition and representatives of the Church were attempting to seize power [in Armenia] this summer by using force.
Furthermore, he hopes to appear on Time magazine’s list of candidates for the title, “Person of the Year.” He believes this will boost his [approval] rating in the eyes of the Armenian public.
He said not to worry about financial costs, to go ahead with organizing the interview.
Simon Shuster has previously conducted interviews with [the late Alexei] Navalny, [Volodymyr] Zelenskyy, and even [Alexander] Lukashenko.
