Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, has issued a message addressed to US President Donald Trump, calling on Washington to collaborate “on an agenda of cooperation" within the framework of international law.

According to Rodriguez, Venezuela "reaffirms its commitment to peace and peaceful coexistence" and considers its priority to build "balanced and respectful international relations" with the US and countries in the region, which will be "based on the principles of sovereign equality and non-interference."

"President Donald Trump, our peoples and our region deserve peace and dialogue, not war. That has always been the position of [Venezuelan] President Nicolas Maduro [who has been arrested by the US], and that is the position of all of Venezuela at this moment. This is the Venezuela I believe in, the Venezuela to which I have dedicated my life. Venezuela has the right to peace, development, sovereignty, and a future,” Rodriguez’s statement adds, in particular.

Trump, speaking to reporters on Air Force One, had said that Rodriguez should give the US full access to Venezuela’s oil and other resources, which would enable the US to rebuild Venezuela, CNN reports.

And in an interview with The Atlantic on Sunday, Trump had said that Delcy Rodriguez would pay a very high price, perhaps even more than Nicolas Maduro, if she refused to cooperate with the US.
