Thirty-two Cuban citizens were killed during the  US operation to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in Caracas on the night of January 3, the Cuban government announced on Facebook.

According to the statement, all of the deceased were employees of the army and intelligence services. Monday and Tuesday have been declared days of mourning in Cuba in their honor.

After Nicolas Maduro came to power in Venezuela, the Cuban authorities partially provided his security measures, according to Reuters. It is not known exactly how many Cubans died while performing the task of protecting Maduro, and how many in other circumstances.

The fact that a lot of Cubans were killed on January 3 was also confirmed by US President Donald Trump during a briefing with reporters on Air Force One on Sunday. "There was a lot of death on the other side. No death on our side," he said.
