White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller has questioned the legality of Denmark's control over Greenland.

In an interview with CNN, Miller questioned the legal basis on which Denmark has gained control of the island and called Greenland a "Danish colony."

“The real question is by what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland?,” Miller asked.

According to him, the security interests of the Arctic and NATO require that Greenland become part of the United States.

Miller expressed confidence that the annexation of the island would not require the use of military force, citing Greenland's small population of about 30,000.

Previously, Politico reported on the possibility of the US gaining control over Greenland in the near future.

Greenland was a Danish colony until 1953, but today it is an autonomous part of Denmark. In 2009, the island received self-government and the right to independently make decisions on domestic policy.
