No country can claim to be an international judge. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of China, Mao Ning, on Tuesday stated this while commenting on the situation surrounding the US and Venezuela.

"China has consistently taken the position that all countries should respect the development path independently chosen by the peoples of other countries, as well as uphold international law and the fundamental objectives and principles of the UN Charter. Major countries should play a leading role, no country can act as an international policeman, and no country can claim to be an international judge," Mao said.

She added that China stands for a universal, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security concept, respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, takes the legitimate security concerns of all countries seriously, and advocates the peaceful settlement of differences and conflicts between countries through dialogue and consultation.

"We [i.e. China] are ready to work with all countries to jointly safeguard the standing of international law, oppose the ‘law of the jungle,’ resist interference in internal affairs, and jointly safeguard peace and stability in the world," the Chinese MFA spokesperson stressed.
