At the moment, the situation in Aleppo is unstable. The Syrian government has already called several times for the population of the Kurdish areas to leave, because they want to inflict serious blows on the Kurdish army. One of the clergymen of the Armenian church in Aleppo, Syria said this in an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“As for the Armenian community, at the moment the head of the Armenian community is the church prelacy; all instructions, calls come from the prelacy. At the moment, people are not leaving their homes, there is a curfew, everyone is in their homes. But the church has called on people whose homes are close to Kurdish areas to come and find shelter in the church until those attacks or the war situation calms down, the situation stabilizes.

An emergency assistance headquarters has been opened, a sickbay, so that if there are any wounded, we can reach the children of our people immediately.

It is an unstable situation, there is fear, there is reason to be concerned, although the Syrian army is trying to keep everything under control, and to do so that the people are not harmed too much. It is clearly seen that they are taking people out of that border line so that the residents do not suffer from a major clash.

There are also Armenian houses there, everyone has already left. There are many Armenians living there who have left those regions. Naturally, we have given shelter to the Armenians. In every way, the prelacy, the Holy Father is working with all his might to ensure that the people are ready for anything,” said the aforesaid clergyman.

He added that, fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries among the Armenians, only material damage. “It seems to me that there are many people who would like to leave the country, but now they cannot. Everyone is now in a state of waiting for what will happen, because everyone already feels what form and scale the confrontation may take. There is strong resistance from both sides. The people are tired of this war. many people have relocated to [Armenia’s capital] Yerevan on the last flights. There is also a flight tomorrow, which has already been delayed.”

The clergyman of the Armenian church in Aleppo added that all shops and educational institutions are closed in the city. “For example, now there is a time set for people to leave those areas, or for those who remained, the [Syrian] government should provide security so that people can go down, get food," he said, in particular.
