The Norwegian Nobel Committee has permitted US President Donald Trump to keep the Nobel Peace Prize medal awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.

“A medal can change owners, but the title of a Nobel peace prize laureate cannot,” Nobel organizers posted on X.

On January 6, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado announced that she was ready to hand the Nobel Peace Prize medal she received in 2025 to the US president after the US attacks on her country. Machado said that when she received the award, she dedicated it to the American leader because she believes “he deserves it.” On January 3, Trump “achieved” what many thought was impossible, the Venezuelan opposition leader said.

Trump on Thursday met with Machado at the White House. After the talks, the Venezuelan opposition leader announced that she had given her Nobel Peace Prize medal to the US president. The US leader received her, Fox News reports.
