US President Donald Trump has called on Congress to immediately pass a law that would end the existence of so-called “sanctuary cities” for illegal immigrants in the US, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

According to Levitt, the US president insists that “American cities should be safe sanctuaries for law abiding citizens only, not for dangerous illegal alien criminals who broke our nation's laws and do not belong here.”

Earlier, Trump wrote on Truth Social that US lawmakers should prohibit local governments in large cities from creating favorable conditions for illegal immigrants in the country.
