The US has removed its flag from the World Health Organization (WHO) after withdrawing from it, the US permanent representative to the international organizations in Geneva, Switzerland said.
The flag, which was dedicated to Americans who lost their lives during the COVID pandemic, is being returned to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the US mission in Geneva added in its statement.
The US announced its withdrawal from the WHO on January 22, exactly one year after President Donald Trump’s executive order began the process.
The UN Secretary General's office announced that the US was no longer participating in the WTO, but later added that the US had not yet fulfilled all the formal conditions necessary for withdrawal, including timely notification of the decision and settlement of financial obligations.
