The Past daily of Armenia writes as follows: The more [PM] Nikol Pashinyan fails in the war he declared against the Armenian Apostolic Church, the more new methods are being invented to destroy the Church.

Accordingly, according to our information, the illegal repressions of the current authorities may gain new momentum in the near future. Our CC [i.e. the ruling Civil Contract Party and its parliamentary faction] sources report that Pashinyan wants to even initiate a criminal case against the Catholicos of All Armenians [Karekin II] and try to detain him before the Bishops’ Synod to be held in Austria; that is, within the next few days.

The day before yesterday, Nikol Pashinyan even revealed on the air of the Public Television (it doesn’t even matter whether he wanted to or not) how he imagines the new persecutions against the Armenian Apostolic Church. "...Today we have information that is in the process of being verified, including that shadow money is entering the Republic of Armenia in the formats of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church for use in Armenia for political purposes," he said.

The current authorities are trying to fight against the Armenian Apostolic Church in several episodes. And, in particular, realizing that the statements about celibacy and political neutrality, the letters about Bishop Yezras allegedly being a KGB agent did not find a particularly serious response among the public, Pashinyan has now moved on to discrediting the Armenian Apostolic Church in another way: declaring that the donations transferred to the Church were used for political purposes in Armenia. Although he himself admits that the information is in the process of being verified, it is natural that the [Armenian] law enforcement system and the prosecutor's office will carry out Pashinyan's illegal instructions, using for this the entire information base on the amounts of donations received by the Armenian Apostolic Church from abroad in various years.

According to our source, they are currently making certain adjustments, receiving information from banks, trying to link the Church and those transferring the money to foreign special services, especially Russian services, and in this way create grounds for initiating criminal proceedings against the Catholicos and a number of high-ranking clergy, with the aim of detaining them before the Bishops’ Synod.

Pashinyan himself understands that this will have serious and severe consequences for him and his power, but he has no other option on the way to disrupt the Bishops’ Synod.
