YEREVAN. – An offshore company cannot be registered in Cyprus without the consent of a shareholder, Prosecutor General of Cyprus Petros Clerides told RFE/RL Armenian service.

Prosecutor General said he had talked with his Armenian counterpart on the offshore issue and was promised to get all necessary documents before his departure.

Asked whether a person can be registered as a shareholder without his consent, Petros Clerides said: “No, but I do not want to reveal all details before I study the documents necessary for an investigation.” The Prosecutor General said registration is possible if a person was acting through an authorized person or in any other form.

Hetq.am website has recently published an article telling about an offshore company allegedly set up by PM Tigran Sargsyan, Archbishop Navasard Kchoyan and others. Premier Sargsyan has already filed a petition to the prosecutor’s office.  

Responding to accusations, Armenian PM claimed it is not difficult to register an offshore company in the name of a person without having his permission.
