YEREVAN. – Armenia’s ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) decided to nominate Armen Karapetyan as a candidate for an MP seat in #38 election district.

The decision was made during the Wednesday meeting of RPA’s executive body.

Talking to reporters, spokesperson for the party Eduard Sharmazanov said now the political forces have an opportunity to fight for a seat in the district, noting that election is “the best option in politics.” RPA welcomes free competition and participation in the elections, he added.

Armen Karapetyan is a former mayor of Kapan, a city in Armenia’s south.  

The MP seat from Election District No. 38 remained vacant when Vahe Hakobyan, who was elected into the parliament from this district, was appointed Syunik Governor on July 11.  The early parliamentary elections will be conducted on September 29.
