YEREVAN. – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and First Lady Rita Sargsyan on Tuesday attended the consecration ceremony of the Armenian Cathedral of Moscow, and the official opening of church complex.

The consecration ceremony of the cathedral, which will is the seat of the Primate of the Novo-Nakhichevan and Russian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, was performed by Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, informs the Office of the President.  

The event brought together Patriarch Cyril of Moscow and All Russia, Russian statesmen and public figures, primates from numerous dioceses of the Armenian Apostolic Church, leaders and representatives of religious denominations in Russia, and philanthropists.  

To note, the construction of this Armenian Church complex, which is built in Downtown Moscow and in line with the Armenian national architectural rules, had begun in 2006.

Following the consecration ceremony, President Sargsyan watched the exhibition titled, “Armenians in Moscow: Historical Path.”  

The President also toured the educational-cultural and lodging buildings of the church complex. 

Subsequently, and at the churchyard, Serzh Sargsyan attended the official opening of the Love and Brotherhood memorial fountain, which symbolizes the friendship between the Armenian and the Russian peoples.
