YEREVAN.- Prosperity of the Iranian people meets the interests of Armenia, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said in an exclusive interview with Armenia TV, commenting on the situation around Iran.

According to him, it is desirable that the Iranian nuclear agreement is retained as it also proceeds from the interests of Armenia.

“Prosperity of the Iranian people meets the interests of Armenia. It will lead to activization of trade, tourism and contacts between us," Sargsyan noted.

He stressed that Iran is a "friendly country. Level of the current economic cooperation does not satisfy us. There is a huge potential, and peace, stability in Iran are necessary for its realization."

The president also touched upon Summit la Francophonie, which will take place in Armenia next year, noting that it is very important for the country.

"In general, 2018 will be rich in events. We will celebrate the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan, and the 100th anniversary of the First Republic in May. These are large events in which numerous guests will participate. Summit la Francophonie will be the largest from the point of view of the number of leaders of the participating countries,” the president noted.
