Turkish forces destroyed 3,000-year-old Ain Dara Temple during the military operation against Kurds in Syria on January 28, Damascus official media reported.

Ain Dara temple is a massive building with ruins, which is paved with stone slabs. The portico is marked by two basalt columns and a wide corridor without a roof.

The Syrian Monitoring Center for Human Rights also reported about the incident. Human rights activists published photos and videos of the destroyed temple on Facebook.

The Syrian government called for international pressure on Turkey to stop shelling archaeological and cultural monuments.

Turkey launched Olive Branch Operation on January 20, against the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units in Afrin and supported the Syrian opposition fighters with ground troops and air strikes.
