YEREVAN. – Washington’s decision to withdraw the US troops from Syria causes concern.

Giro Manoyan, head of the Political Affairs Bureau and the Armenian Cause Office of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party of Armenia, stated the above-said at a press conference on Monday.

In his words, this decision will open new “opportunities” for Turkey, in terms of sending its troops to Syria.

“The infiltration of Turkish troops will be conducted toward the northern and eastern regions of the country [Syria], [and] which are controlled by the Kurds,” he said. “[But] the [Syrian] Armenian population is concentrated in those regions of Syria.”

Manoyan noted that the decision to pull the US troops out of Syria was made during a telephonic conversation between the American and the Turkish presidents, but this decision was not unanimously approved by the authorities in Washington.

“In this connection, we [Armenians] have several reasons for concern,” the ARF official said. “First, the Armenian population’s presence in the Syrian territory where the Turkish armed forces could infiltrate,” he explained. “Second, the fact that all that will take place relatively slightly away from our [Armenia] borders.”
