United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has issued a congratulatory message to Nikol Pashinyan for being elected the Prime Minister of Armenia.

As per the message, the recent snap parliamentary election in Armenia—and which was conducted with the technical support of the UN—became an important point for the democratic development of the country. Guterres expressed the hope that Armenia will record further progress, and in the spirit of inclusiveness and transparency.

In his message, the UN Secretary-General also expressed a conviction that under Pashinyan’s leadership, Armenia will continue supporting the UN precepts and objectives.

As per Guterres, in line with the new PM’s ambitious reform agenda, the UN expects to closely cooperate with him and his government for the implementation of sustainable development goals, as well as for the protection and strengthening of human rights and rule of law.

In addition, the UN chief reaffirmed that this organization is ready to support the efforts by the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, and aimed at achieving a pacific settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict.
