A Moscow regional court has ruled that Armenian “thief in law” Artur Gharibyan, 44, be remanded in custody on charges of unlawfully possession of large amount of narcotic drugs.

Gharibyan was detained near a Moscow restaurant, and about 4 grams of methadone were found in his possession, Prime Crime information agency reported.

If Gharibyan is found guilty as charged, he will face ten years in prison.

Artur Gharibyan, who was born in Azerbaijan’s capital city of Baku, was for the first time put behind bars in 2010, and also for possession of a large amount of methadone. But four months later, he was released on parole.

Soon thereafter, however, an arrest warrant was issued for Gharibyan, and for breach of parole.

Last January, he was detained in Cyprus but had managed to escape on the way to the court.
