On April 27-28, Armenia will host an international conference on construction of a new nuclear power unit. The conference aims to discuss and determine the sources of investments, Chairman of the State Nuclear Regulatory Commission Ashot Martirosyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, the conference entitled “New Armenian nuclear plant-investment opportunities” will be attended by various international experts and representatives of companies.

“During the conference it will become clear who will make investments,” Martirosyan said. According to him, different countries and companies are interested in construction of a new nuclear unit of Metsamor plant.

“Russia has already announced that it will invest up to 20%,” Martirosyan said. After the Armenian Government specifies the amount of investments for constructing similar plants in different countries, it will specify its investments.

The start of construction of a new nuclear power station is scheduled for 2012. About U.S. $ 4-5 bn is needed for the construction.
