Iran cannot hold talks with the United States in a situation of imposing war and economic pressure from Washington, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

He said the U.S. return to the nuclear deal is a “ticket to talks”.

The problem of the Iranian nuclear dossier sharply worsened after the United States unilaterally withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA) on May 8, 2018 and introduced economic sanctions against oil export. Trump has repeatedly stated his readiness for a dialogue with Tehran. At the same time, he said that he was interested in replacing the existing JCPOA with another treaty, which would include not only Iran’s nuclear program, but also a wide range of issues, including Tehran’s missile program and its regional policy.

Zarif is on an official visit to Malaysia, where he is expected to discuss issues of regional security, bilateral relations, as well as the problem of maintaining a nuclear deal.
