Talks between Iran and the US under economic sanctions against Tehran are meaningless, said Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a telephone talk with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.
According to him, the US is evading its obligations under the 2015 nuclear program agreement after withdrawing from it, Tasnimnews reported.
“From the viewpoint of Iran’s administration, parliament and people, as long as the sanctions are in place, negotiation with the US is meaningless,” he said.
Rouhani noted that Tehran is ready to return to the fulfillment of its obligations under the deal, as well as to start talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, US, Britain, France, and Germany).
Macron referred to the intensive talks of his government with the US over Iran and said that Paris would continue its efforts to implement the agreement and achieve mutual understanding.
The presidents of Iran and France agreed to continue consultations on this issue.
