YEREVAN. – A criminal case has been launched in connection with the threats made against Edmon Marukyan, chairman of the opposition Bright Armenia party and head of the Bright Armenia faction in parliament.

The case was opened under the Criminal Code article on threat of murder, causing serious harm to health, or of destruction of large property if there was a danger of carrying out that threat. Arevik Khachatryan, Head of the Public Relations Department of the Prosecutor General's Office, informed this to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

At a February 11 press conference in parliament, Marukyan had announced that threats were made against him, and he publicized some of these threats. Marukyan had petitioned in writing to the Prosecutor General about these threats, and the Prosecutor General’s Office had sent his letter to the police as a crime report.
