This is what President of the Union of Journalists of Armenia Satik Seyranyan said during an online discussion entitled “Communication Crisis: Hatred in the Media Space” today.

According to Seyranyan, what is very important is who spreads hate speech and offensive remarks and violates the presumption of innocence because if this is done by the head of state, such actions have an impact on the country’s image. “In such a situation, blaming journalists is inacceptable. The fact that a crisis in public and political life is noticeable in Armenia is a different story. At the same time, mass media outlets are discredited, laws are adopted without public deliberations, and all this poses risks for restrictions on freedom of speech,” she stated, adding that the situation regarding the spread of hatred with the participation of ‘fakes’ has deepened after the revolution in Armenia and that this is linked to the fact that ‘fakes’ are paid for spreading hatred.
