According to Ankakh newspaper’s sources, representatives of Armenia’s opposition Homeland Salvation Movement will meet with President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian tomorrow morning to discuss issues related to the decree on dismissing Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan.

Sarkissian didn’t sign Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s decree on dismissing Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan twice, but today he decided to apply to the Constitutional Court with the request to determine compliance of the Law of Armenia of November 15, 2017 on Military Service and Status of Servicemen with the Constitution.

This means that Pashinyan’s decree on dismissing Gasparyan will enter into force within a three-day period, and tomorrow marks the end of the three-day period.

After the President issued his statement, the opposition Homeland Salvation Movement issued a statement demanding an urgent meeting with the President.

The opposition was demanding that the President apply to the Constitutional Court to specifically challenge Pashinyan’s decree. The President still has one day to apply to the Constitutional Court with the request to determine the constitutionality of Pashinyan’s decree.

Yesterday it was reported that Sarkissian and Pashinyan have met at Sarkissian’s house.
