YEREVAN. – Armen Simonyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, received Heather Byrnes, US International Trade Administration Regional Senior Commercial Officer for Eurasia and US Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Speaking about the warm friendly and partnership relations between the two countries, Simonyan considered it important to have a direct air connection between Armenia and the US.

The deputy minister presented in detail the problems, difficulties, the need for reforms in the transport sector of Armenia, the respective priorities of the country’s government, as well as the advantages of Armenia as a transit country.

Byrnes, in turn, asked about the issues of the Upper Lars motorway section leading to the Georgian-Russian border, the possibility of having an alternative to that road, the North-South motorway of Armenia, the existing capacity of the railway sector of the country, the strategy for the further development of this railway, cargo transportation by air, and some other important matters. The US representative added that many companies are interested in the idea of being represented in Armenia.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to hold another such meeting to more substantively discuss the raised matters and issues.
