Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan on Thursday met with Raouf Mazou, the Assistant High Commissioner for Operations of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), on the sidelines of the World Refugee Forum in Geneva, Switzerland.

The deputy FM presented the work carried out by the Armenian government aimed at protecting the rights and addressing the needs of Armenians forcibly displaced as a result of the ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan, and briefed on the projects aimed at overcoming mid-term and long-term issues of these refugees, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Both sides emphasized the importance of exercising the right of return of the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians in accordance with the legally binding Order of the UN International Court of Justice  adopted on November 17.

Also, the parties discussed steps towards the fulfillment of the humanitarian call of the Armenian government and the Office of UNHCR aimed at collecting 97 million euros, as well as joint efforts towards addressing  the needs of refugees. It was noted that, taking into account the large flow of refugees into Armenia, it was decided to put the country on the list of beneficiaries of the Global Concessional Financing Facility for middle-income countries.
