YEREVAN. – Ever since its independence, Armenia has never purchased useless weaponry, Armenian Defense Minister’s Press Secretary Davit Karapetyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am, commenting on the recent scandal in Moldova that the country’s National Army Commander and Chief of General Staff, Brigadier General Iurie Dominic was dismissed for alleged sale of useless weapons to Armenia. But Karapetyan did not inform whether Armenia had ever purchased weapons from Moldova. “Because of national security interests, details about purchase of armaments are not subject to publicizing,” he noted.

NEWSru.com news agency reported that, on September 12, a Latvian-registered airplane had arrived in Moldova, from Benghazi, Libya, and, loading 30 tons of weaponry, it had flown to Armenia. Once this a scandal broke in Moldova, it in effect resulted in the dismissal of Iurie Dominic.

Armenian MOD formally denied that it had purchased useless weapons from Moldova.
