YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party held a reception Friday in honor of Jaime Mayor Oreja, Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s Group of the European People’s Party (EPP).
Welcoming Oreja to Armenia in the lead-up to the country’s parliamentary elections, Heritage’s International Secretary and National Assembly Faction leader Stepan Safaryan noted in particular: “We assure that Heritage will achieve great success in the forthcoming elections, and Armenia will receive new opportunities for further integrating with European organizations.”
In his turn, Jaime Mayor Oreja conveyed the EPP’s message and specifically said: “I am happy Armenia is a part of the [European] family and has taken the road to European integration. Underscoring the need for free, fair and transparent elections, fight against corruption, ensuring freedom of speech, and Armenia’s overall democratization, I wish success to Heritage in the May 6 elections, and hope Armenia’s young democracy will triumph in these elections.”
