Russia and Georgia will exchange notifications on opening of Upper Lars-Kazbegi checkpoint in the near future, December 29 RF Foreign Ministry representative Andrei Nesterenko said.

According to him, December 23 the second meeting of Russian and Georgian experts took place.

After meeting the sides decided to resume communication through checkpoint on March 1, 2010. After signing of the agreed protocol by the heads of expert groups, as well as Swiss and Georgian embassies’ representatives, Russian and Georgian sides will soon exchange appropriate official notifications on communication resumption under Swiss mediation, Nesterenko stated

He also expressed hope that early opening of the checkpoint will be a step directed towards restoration of Russian-Georgian ties, Interfax reports.
