YEREVAN. – Opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) activist and political prisoner Tigran Arakelyan has handed over a letter via his friends at the Armenia’s Appellate Court on Thursday addressed to the U.S. Ambassador John Heffern.

Arakelyan turned to the Ambassador claiming he has read Heffern’s concern for Prosperous Armenia Party MP Vartan Oskanian and people turned to the ambassador asking to express his attitude on the case. However, it was not clear who turned to the ambassador and if Arakelyan is permitted he would like to ask Heffern some questions.

Arakelyan in particular, asked the Ambassador Heffern, who were people who turned to him for comments on Oskanian case and whether he could turn to Heffern for comments on his and his friends’ case and expect his comment.

“We were subjected to violence and were sentenced for 2 to 6 years in jail due to false accusations. Also, is the fact that the verdict is cast on the threshold of the upcoming presidential elections concerning?” Arakelyan wrote.

Besides, as the ambassador is not aware of many details to express his position [on Arakelyan’s case] and Arakelyan offered Heffern or the latter’s representative to meet him.
