YEREVAN. – The anthrax epidemic is spreading all through Armenia’s regions, Hraparak daily reports.

“We learned yesterday [Monday] that a cow had died in Zovuni village of Kotayk Region. The sample is sent for laboratory testing; there are suspicions of anthrax. To note, anthrax was [already] discovered in Gegharkunik, Armavir, Tavush, [and] Aragatsotn regions.    

[The Agriculture Ministry’s State] Service on Food Safety Spokesperson Babken Pipoyan confirmed the cow’s death in Zovuni. To note, a criminal case [on charges of] violation of the sanitary and epidemiological rules is opened.   

Even though it is apparent that the source for the disease is the non-vaccination of the animals, no one has yet been arrested. The investigative body is waiting for the conclusion of the examination, based upon which the course of the investigation will change,” Hraparak writes.
