RA Republican party (RPA) faction Secretary Eduard Sharmazanov considers natural election of Turkish parliamentarian PACE President as he was the only candidate. Armenian delegation will start working with Mevlut Cavusoglu, taking into account national interests, RPA member told NEWS.am.
“Armenian delegation is experienced enough. Regardless who is PACE President, its members and the delegation head David Harutyunyan in particular will confidently defend Armenia’s national interests,” Sharmazanov underlined. Asked to comment on the fact that Armenian delegation composition was not approved, Sharmazanov outlined that PACE itself should answer this question.
Newly appointed PACE President Mevlut Cavusoglu replaced Luis Maria de Puig and will head the organization for two years. At its winter session opened in Strasbourg on January 25 the CE Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) confirmed the powers of all the national delegations except for the Armenian and Albanian delegations. The European parliamentarians stated the Armenian Parliament fell foul of the rules for composing the Armenian delegation, without explaining what they meant. On January 15, RA Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan confirmed the Armenian delegation members. He removed the Heritage Party member Zaruhi Bostanjyan from the list of permanent members of the Armenian delegation to PACE. He ordered her trips not to be arranged or sponsored any more.
