YEREVAN. – The insufficient sanitary and hygienic conditions were the cause for the violations that were discovered in eighteen cheese-producing companies in Armenia, the Agriculture Ministry’s State Service on Food Safety official Armen Araratyan said during a press conference on Thursday. 

The sanction, which was imposed upon seventeen such companies, has been lifted and based on the companies’ taking sufficient measures.

Araratyan informed that intestinal germ bacteria are stable with respect to salt. The Chanakh-type cheese is not packaged, but rather kept in saltwater. The Lori-type cheese, however, is packaged and labeled, and therefore it is considered to be less risky for health.          

As per Armen Araratyan, technical regulations exclude the presence of intestinal germ bacteria in cheese.
