Strengthening cooperation within CSTO, which is an important component of Armenia’s security, was one of the main directions of the foreign policy of Armenia, states the 2012 report of Armenian FM.

According to the report, the year was marked by the 20th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty signing and the 10th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty Organization creation.

In May, at the anniversary meeting of Collective Security Treaty Organization in Moscow with the participation of the President of Armenia, heads of the Collective Security Treaty Organization member-states made the bulk of the Declaration, which touched upon the Karabakh problem, noting the need for its settlement by peaceful means on the basis of the principles of non-use of force or threat of force, equality of peoples and the rights to self-determination and territorial integrity.

On December 19, Armenian president attended the meeting of the Collective Security Council in Moscow, where a number of documents on expanding cooperation in the military sphere, emergency and security, strengthening of rapid reaction forces and peacekeeping forces of CSTO were approved.

On September 15-19 joint exercises “Interaction-2012” were held in Armenia with Collective Rapid Response Forces of CSTO. Armenia in October took part in CSTO peacekeeping exercise “Interaction-2012” in Kazakhstan. In 2012, CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha visited Armenia three times, and met with the leadership of the country.
