YEREVAN.- Armenia’s ruling party commented on Azerbaijani FM’s statement made during the open debate at the UN, according to which “war of Armenia against Azerbaijan and the occupation of Azerbaijani territories had a negative impact on the civilian population.”

Deputy Chairman of Republican Party of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov said Azerbaijani leadership does not want to abandon Nazi-type propaganda, spreading misinformation and lies. 

“As to Armenia’s ‘aggression’ and ‘occupation’ of the Azerbaijani territories, it should be noted that the entire world knows: Armenia never waged war against Azerbaijan. Statement by Mr. Mammadyarov is simply a clever attempt to present the Karabakh conflict as a territorial dispute. The truth is that in response to the legitimate demand of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh for self-determination, Azerbaijani authorities launched a war of aggression against the civilian population. Moreover, Azerbaijan is still holding in the occupation parts of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic,” he said.

As to claims that mass killings of peaceful Azerbaijani citizens were committed 21 years ago,  Sharmazanov stressed that Azerbaijani official should better read the interview with the former president of his country Ayaz Mutalibov to a Czech journalist Dana Mazalova where Mutalibov accused Azerbaijani opposition of massacring their own people in order to seize power (“Nezavisimoya Gazeta as of 2.4.92)
