YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Premier, Tigran Sargsyan, received the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev, who is leading the CIS observation mission to Armenia’s presidential election to be conducted on February 18. 

The interlocutors discussed the carrying out of observation missions in the voting, the Government press service informs. 

“The Armenian authorities are doing their utmost so that this election becomes the best throughout our history. All conditions are created for the [presidential] candidates to effectively carry out their campaign,” Sargsyan noted.  

In his turn, Lebedev expressed a satisfaction by the conditions that are created for the contenders. The CIS observation mission chief also noted that the election-related incidents, which were recorded in Armenia so far, did not have a serious impact on the country’s electoral process. He further informed that over 200 observers will conduct, under the auspices of the CIS, an observation mission on election day.   

In addition, Armenia’s PM and the CIS executive secretary discussed matters with respect to session of the Council of the Heads of Governments of CIS countries—which will be held in Minsk, Belarus, on May 31—, and reflected on the avenues for enhancing cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States.
