YEREVAN. – Armenia’s ruling Republican Party leader and incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan’s Central Election Headquarters transferred to its challengers the right for its proxies to sit between the precinct commission members during Monday’s presidential election.   

“Underscoring the raising of the people’s trust in the elections, the more effective oversight of the voting process, the ruling out of voting in place of absent citizens and multiple voting; based on Armenia’s Electoral Code, pursuant to which the candidates’ proxies have the right to sit—[or] be present—between the two [precinct] commission members and to oversee their actions; and by considering that Sargsyan’s proxies have the primary opportunity to make use of this right, since Sargsyan is the sole contender who is nominated by a [political] party that is represented at the parliament:

Serzh Sargsyan’s Central Election Headquarters [hereby] states that it yields Sargsyan’s’ proxies’ right to be present between the two [precinct] commission members and to oversee their actions to the proxies of [presidential candidate, opposition Freedom Party Chairman, former PM Hrant] Bagratyan, in all election precincts with odd numbers, and to the proxies of [presidential contender, opposition Heritage Party Chairman, former FM Raffi] Hovannisian, in all election precincts with even numbers,” the respective statement reads in particular.
