YEREVAN. – At present, Vrezh Galstyan—who broke in the Armenian National Assembly (NA) building and who is currently at capital city Yerevan’s No. 1 University Hospital with a gunshot wound—is being taken to court, Hospital Chief Physician Karen Sahakyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.   

As per Sahakyan, the court will decide on whether to send Galstyan, 25, to mandatory medical treatment because the young man is very aggressive, and he is causing problems at the hospital for a second night.   

“He is making noise, trying to escape, yank his attached medication, [and] take off the catheter,” he stated.      

Karen Sahakyan also noted that Galstyan’s gunshot wound is healing.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, a man sustained a gunshot wound as he tried to carry in a knife into the NA building on March 22. The man managed to enter the courtyard of the parliament, at about 2:30pm, and started voicing threats. The parliament’s security officers ordered him to throw the knife, but he disobeyed the order. Subsequently, the security officers fired shots in the air, but the man still did not follow the order. Consequently, the police officers were forced to fire at his leg. The NA physician provided medical assistance to the man until an ambulance arrived. The knife was confiscated, and the wounded man was taken to hospital.

It was found out that the person that unlawfully entered the NA area was Masis city resident Vrezh Galstyan, who was born in 1988. According to preliminary information, he has twice been convicted before. 

A Special Investigation Service (SIS) team was dispatched to the scene of the incident, and the necessary investigation was conducted. As a result, the SIS launched criminal proceedings, and the respective investigation is in progress.
