YEREVAN. – Friday’s National Assembly (NA) special session, which was to be convened by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) NA Faction, will not take place, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports.  

“The other [NA] political forces did not agree to sign under the document prepared by RPA. In an interview with our reporter, RPA NA Faction leader Galust Sahakyan said nothing is decided yet because each [NA] faction has its own demand-proposal in connection with the matter.     

‘The issue was that there would be any document under which all [NA] political forces would sign. But, I believe, this has not yet come to be,’ [Sahakyan said].    

To the query as to whether this means there will not be a special session, Sahakyan responded: ‘A special [session] is not convened as an end unto itself; it is convened to adopt a document.’    

To note, the content of the statement prepared by RPA was approximately as follows: ‘‘We won the February 18 [presidential] elections, but are prepared to listen and discuss what other [political] forces have to say. RPA awaits the factions’ proposals,’” Haykakan Zhamanak daily writes.
