YEREVAN. – The authorities of Armenia have decided to hold negotiations with MP and businessman Samvel Aleksanyan, with respect to selling his Yerevan City supermarket chain to the well-known French Carrefour hypermarket chain, Zhamanak daily reports.

“If this [business] deal indeed takes place, it will be a sensational move and an abrupt decision, on behalf of Armenia’s authorities, to change the economic policy [of the country].

If the authorities truly want for Carrefour to by this huge chain store of Aleksanyan and to immediately enter Armenia’s market with such broad involvement, it means they finally decided to manifest a political will to demonopolize the import and sales market [of the country],” Zhamanak writes.
