YEREVAN. – The observation mission from the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (CoE) will arrive in Armenia late April to follow the course of the capital city Yerevan Council election, which is slated for May 5. Deputy PM and Territorial Administration Minister Armen Gevorgyan told this to Armenian News-NEWS.am, in response to the query as to whether the CoE was sent an invitation to monitor the forthcoming vote.      

“The observation mission of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe also followed the local self-government elections of past September.

“On behalf of the Government of Armenia, PM Tigran Sargsyan petitioned to Congress President Herwig van Staa back on February 20, formally inviting the observation team of the Congress. The matter was discussed at the bureau session of the Congress.       

“According to our information, the observation mission of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe will arrive in Armenia late April to follow the course of the Yerevan Council elections,” Gevorgyan said in particular.
