YEREVAN. – Poland’s stance with respect to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue does not differ from EU’s formal position, Polish Ambassador to Armenia, Zdzisław Raczyński, stated during a press conference on Thursday.  

The diplomat stressed that the unresolved status of this conflict has a negative impact on the situation in the region, and it curtails the political and economic opportunities of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

To the query as to whether or not Poland is preparing to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh, Ambassador Raczyński recalled that Armenia itself has not yet recognized Nagorno-Karabakh.      

Upon the news reporters’ request to comment on Azerbaijan’s statements and threats to down airplanes flying to Nagorno-Karabakh, the Polish ambassador noted that official Baku has not yet made any formal announcements in this regard, and he did not rule out the media’s unhelpful role in this matter.  

Reflecting on Azerbaijan’s making a hero out of Ramil Safarov—the Azerbaijani army officer who had killed with an axe Armenian soldier Gurgen Margaryan in Budapest back in 2004 and who was released in Azerbaijan last year, following his extradition to that country from Hungary—, Raczyński stated that this step was unnecessary.  

The Polish Ambassador to Armenia also expressed a conviction that solely the pacific settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and renouncing the use of force and the threat of use of force will lead to the resolution of this matter.
