YEREVAN. – Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun (CI) daily asked Armenia’s acting Health Minister Derenik Dumanyan whether or not the H1N1 virus, which causes swine flu, still exists in the country, the daily reports. 

“In response, Dumanyan said there is no swine flu in Armenia. ‘Now, flu cases are recorded very rarely in Armenia; they are primarily the B types. [But] now, we do not have such cases.’

CI remarked that, in that case what is the reason for the rumors about swine flu and the announcements posted in hospitals that [hospital] visits are limited in connection with the flu virus in [hospital] wards.     

In response, Dumanyan explained: ‘No such thing is recorded in hospitals, and such announcements in the intensive care departments perhaps refer to acute respiratory illnesses, which are mistaken with swine flu. We have passed to a weekly monitoring system, [and] they reported to me yesterday [Wednesday] that the situation is calm,’” Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun writes.
