YEREVAN. – Armenia’s flag was raised in front of Strasbourg municipality on Thursday to mark Armenian chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
The ceremony was attended by Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian, Strasbourg Mayor Ronald Ries, Andorra’s FM and previous chairman of the Committee of Ministers Gilbert Saboya Sunyé, representatives of diplomatic mission accredited in Strasbourg and representatives of the local Armenian community were present at the ceremony.
Armenian flag will wave during six months of Armenia’s chairmanship.
Addressing the participants, Minister Nalbandian said Strasbourg is a symbol of human rights and fundamental freedoms for 800 million Europeans.
“Armenia’s chairmanship will give an opportunity to get familiarized with Armenia and Armenian culture thanks to the events planned to be held in Strasbourg,” he said.
He noted that in the history of the nations and countries there are moments that will forever remain in the memory of many generations. May 16, 2013 is such a day for Armenia.
