YEREVAN. – The Government of Armenia on Thursday adopted a decision to introduce to the National Assembly a law proposal to raise the monthly minimum wage in the country from 35,000 drams (approx. $84) to 45,000 drams (approx. $108).    

As per Labor and Social Affairs Minister Artem Asatryan, the minimum wage needs to be doubled in 2017.

According to the minister, the state budget needs an additional 6 billion drams (approx. $14,398,740) to be able to raise the minimum wage as of July 1. 

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan noted that there will be a tangible change in the domain of salaries, and the salaries of those state employees that are paid the minimum wage will be raised.
