YEREVAN. – Armenia’s status of an observer in Russia-initiated Eurasian union does not conflict with EU talks, but official Brussels would like to learn the details, spokesperson for Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood policy said.

The official Brussels recalls that Armenia must take responsibility so that talks with the Customs Union could not contradict provisions of the free trade area agreement with the EU, Peter Stano said in an interview with RFE/RL Armenian service.

The matter is that every country should have the right to make decisions independently of the foreign trade and customs duties. Meanwhile, Customs Union, a common customs and trade policy, deprives countries of the right to make decisions on their own, he added.    

Spokesperson for Stefan Fule also said Brussels wants to finalize negotiations on two agreements with Armenia by the time of Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius this November.

He noted that these agreements will bring closer Armenia’s economic integration with the EU as well as political partnership.
